delicious.
fire hosted a guest chef for this dinner. She's a talented home cook. Unfortunately, I didn't get a decent picture of one of the best dishes of the meal. The tandoori chicken was fantastic.
In at least one way, this was a natural choice for fire. They've had a tandoori oven since they opened.
Besides the special chef, the evening's other feature was goat. I also failed to capture two of the meal's three goat dishes. I was lucky enough to sit next to the farmers responsible for the goat.
I'd love to see goat used more often in Cleveland. Shanti's kitchen was really the only place where I ate it. If I find a decent replacement Caribbean restaurant, I imagine that they'd have it, too. It would be nice to have an authentic Mexican restaurant that offered goat. And tongue which makes a fantastic taco. And al pastor and cabeza, neither of which I've ever managed to find.
Soup and Salad at the Wynn

Today we had a special treat of lunch buffet at the Wynn, a bit of a celebration over something I'm not at liberty to discuss yet but I promise is very, very boring and you don't want to know anyway, but it did pay for this meal, so that was nice.
Quite accidentally I've had Wynn buffet once a year since it opened. August 2005 for dinner, August 2006 for breakfast, and now August 2007 for lunch. Dinner was best, but I'm sure the menu has since changed.
This was my second plate. We have gazpacho soup; grilled bread; a salad I made with croutons, bleu cheese dressing, Parmesan shavings, sliced cherry tomatoes (the slicing is such a nice touch), and an assortment of greens; and a salad they made of greens, tomatoes, and mozzarella that later I quite unceremoniously dumped out of its little glass.
(There were five salads-in-a-glass available. I was drawn to the mushroom/balsamic, but I'd already had mushroom ravioli with cream sauce.)
I didn't take a picture of the first plate. The selection was mostly more inventive than the usual casino buffet fare. For example, instead of black or refried beans in the "Mexican" section (I'm really beginning to tire of the "station"-themed buffets and would rather they were arranged by ingredient or weight in stomach or weirdness or something else), they had a warm four-bean mixture with just a little Monterey jack cheese. It was very delish.
The three cheese and green chili enchiladas were surprisingly tasty, but the little bean/cheese/pico de gallo/flatbread concoctions had been in the tray too long.
We each sampled several desserts, but the pics are too blurry even for me to post. I give a thumbs up to the Rice Krispies treat with drizzled chocolate, the Proust-worthy madeline (with a side of creme anglaise), and the bread pudding. The raspberry Breton cake was too gelatin-like for me. And the caramel eclair... I don't know what was up with that. Interesting, but not too edible - a little too burnt-tasting, perhaps? No, I don't know.
One thing I do like about the Wynn is that they have ginger ale. It's not ginger beer, but it'll do just fine.
I guess next year it's brunch...

Vegetarian Taco @ Mijita

This was a good, but not spectacular, taco. The tortillas and the salsa were particularly good. The pickled peppers and carrots were sweeter than I expected.
The real star of the meal was the (not pictured) quesadilla, which didn't resemble a normal quesadilla so much as a Samosa made of masa and filled with mexican cheeses. F***ing delicious.
