4th day - Off to Göteborg!
I got bored of waiting at the tram-stop. Plus I was hungry. So I asked Thomas if we can walk around and look for food. After few mins, the 3 of us stumbled upon a supermarket which seemed to be own by an Arab. Lots of halal food inside! But no fresh ones, except for some salads and nuts. :(
I thought this was a funny label and captured it on digital. Split second after that, an Arab man who was obviously one of the staffs there, came to me and said...
"Excuse me miss, no pictures."
I gave him a stoic face, nodded. and muttered, "Sorry." He walked away.
But actually, a bit takut jugak ah. Sekali pat situ dia tangkap ke. Mati aku. Hehehe.
I realised the local Swedes are more friendly than the "ciplak dan celup" ones. The "ciplak and celup" would look at us in an odd way, as if we're from outer space. Thomas said that they don't really like to see an Asian with a Swede, especially an Asian girl with a Swede man. Most of them, or all, think that the Asian girl is only after the Swede man's money.
Chet. Stereotyping.
I was like, "Oh? Really?"
Thomas : "Yeah, really."
I replied : "No lah, I think they are thinking of something else."
Thomas : "What?"
I chuckled : "They are thinking, why in the world is this geeky Swede going out with a cute girl like me. HAHAHAHA!"
Thomas : "Duh"
Correct what! Lol.
Oh yeah. We bought a can of corned beef, some other things I can't remember and 300 grams of pistachio nuts. Yum!
Seared fresh halibut, sunchoke puree, grilled oyster & shiitake mushrooms, fresh favas, citrus-beet drizzle

We were givent the choice of the halibut or steak (Spice-grilled flat-iron steak, melted leeks, charred heirloom tomatoes, herb spaetzle, black currant reduction - which I didn't get a picture of). Kent had the halibut, Emily chose the steak. However, they want to note that they did "share" their main courses. ;) Jane and I captured their "sharing" which appeared more like Emily getting more of Kent's yummy halibut (the favourite of the two). Hee hee hee (that's what happens when you leave your friends to take pictures).
Delicate moist halibut sat on a refreshing pool of sunchoke and just cooked fava beans. Deliciously meaty oyster mushrooms lay beneath the lightly dressed protein which was both light and satisfying. I found it cute when Kent told us he had to encourage his mother to have the oyster mushrooms because they were indeed muchrooms and not oysters. :) Jane liked the beans as they weren't the al dente trend and agreed with Emily and Kent that the halibut was nicer this round than the steak (that Eddy chose).
The children had grilled hamburgers with frites.
Invited to snap shots of the food for memories sake, Jane and I took issues into our hands with one of our most worked with subjects. As the reception was held at Hart House's Gallery Grill which is normally opened for lunch and Sunday brunch, the whole group was in for a treat from the kitchen from a menu selected by Emily and Kent that drew back from what they had on past experiences.
what is going on here??

Cycling to town I saw this toy doggy with a colourful food plate in front of it, tied with a leash to a nearby tree. Right there by the cycle path. My first hunch was that somebody was trying to beg for money perhaps. Or maybe it was simply a child playing. Or, before getting off my bike to take this picture, I was a bit concerned that I'd soon hear the notorious line: Smile! You're on candid camera!
It's still a mystery to me what was really going on.
PS. My daughter told me later on that these are water bowls for dogs put in different places of the town on very hot days. How cute is that!!
