"Ah, Picture! I take!"

One of the workers in this fine establishment saw me taking photos of my food and offered to take our picture for us. I set the camera and gave it to him, and he took this remarkably good snap of us and our new friends from Miami (who may not have realized they're in the picture).
Ryokan Torture
It was a great ryokan. The best I've ever stayed in. And it had a great men's onsen. Well, it was mostly great for the fact that no one but me was there to use it.
But there was no need to torture us like that.
Pictured here was the appetizer of what was the largest meal I have eaten in years. There was so much food. All of it good. I especially liked the pork at the end: when my two companions were tapping out, I took both of their shares of the pork. But oh my god, the pain.
Why'd you have to do that, ryokan? Just because it might not be classified as torture, would you force that much good food at once on your kids?

96-365 take a photo every day in 2009
My good friend of 30 years Lynn Baxter and now Flickr Contact phoned this evening,
www.flickr.com/photos/lynnbaxter/
she told me she still cooks a recipe that I gave her along time ago and I had since forgotten about, I had the ingredients to hand and I was trying to make my mind up what to eat so I decided to go back in time.
Ingredients:
Bacon (or Sausage)
½ tin tomatoes
2 cloves of garlic
Pepper to taste
Method:
Fry the bacon in a frying pan while at the same time bring the tomatoes to the boil in a sauce pan. When the bacon is cooked (or even just before it reaches that stage) transfer to the sauce pan along with any fat and juices that are in the frying pan, add the garlic, simmer until it is reduced then add water and keep on reducing, repeat this reducing process slowly simmering for about an hour. I have experimented with a little thyme or mixed herbs but its best kept simple.
Serve as a sandwich on crusty bread, and enjoy cleaning the pan with a piece of dry bread.
Carrots are good for your heart (48/365)

My girlfriend and I refuse to celebrate Valentine's the traditional way. When I came home today however, she surprised me with a spectacular diner. Sadly, both of us weren't so hungry which means we will be enjoying leftovers for some time to come.
Picture of the day is a side-dish, filled with chopped carrots. Eat your heart out, Saint-Valentine! I know I will.
