Historic Food Coupons
Image by national museum of american history
The Museum acquired Food Stamp Program coupons and other related materials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, the cornerstone of U.S. food assistance programs designed to ensure that low-income citizens can obtain a nutritious diet.
Pictured here are food coupon store exchange artifacts. Cash change was not given for food coupon purchases. Instead grocers provided change chits and scrip of their own design, which the beneficiary could use for the next purchase.

Marines bring food to needy families in Afghanistan
Image by United States Marine Corps Official Page
Cpl. Brandon Owensby, a radio operator with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and Hayatullah, one of the Nawa District governor’s bodyguards, stage food donations to be distributed to needy families in Nawa for the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, a celebratory feast marking the end of Ramadan, at the Nawa governor’s Marine house near the Nawa District Governor’s Center, Sept. 8, 2010. Making purchases through local suppliers, 3/3 and the 3rd Civil Affairs Group purchased almost 4,000 pounds of food, enough to supply 130 families with a care package. Owensby is from Visalia, Calif. Fast Food Africa Graffti
This seemed like an interesting statement. This graffiti is in the courtyard that is behind the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid, Spain. Someone else took a smiliar picture, here: www.flickr.com/photos/detapasyvinos/112583045/
I tracked down the email address of the "artist," via his site (linked below and found by detapasyvinos) to ask him what this meant. Africa is a Fast food of the first world."
FAST FOOD AFRICA means that the continent of Africa is the place where the whole world goes screw the place over fast and cheap. Without worring about the continent nor the people. Africa has been converted into the 'fast food' of the first world. We use up all its resources cheaply and quickly affecting sickness, war and education. Africa is a Fast food of the first world."
Post Note: I was back in the same courtyard in May 2006 and this grafitti had been removed. In March, "Fast Food Africa" could be found in various other places around Madrid. In May, I saw other grafitti that looked to be from Noaz, but no "Fast Fod Africa" anywhere.
